AUSTRONESIAN CULTURAL MUSEUM
back to ideas index

The Austronesian Cultural museum proposed by us for Singapore is to exhibit the unity of the Malay races and the southern Chinese and those in Indochina. These intrepid Austronesian sailors who originated in Yunnan spread to Taiwan then Philipines and down to Sulawesi and from there across the Pacific to Polynesia and westwards to Madagascar. The museum is designed as glass terraces housing the ethnographic museum.

The maritime museum and the primate tower emphasise the biodiversity of both nature and culture.

A gigantic Banyan tree serves as the outdoor theatre for South East Asian Cultural performances around the "tree of life".
