NIGHT SAFARI, SINGAPORE
back to projects index

The Night Safari new entrance: imagine that you enter a village square in the middle of the night. You experience the drama of a ceremony. Naked flames illuminate the scene. Native voices punctuate the air. The atmosphere is created by greenwood structures. We explore the aesthetics of botanical construction. The hope to use bundled pole structure was thwarted by the engineering code that cannot compute it. Steel structures have to be hidden to obtain building approval but the issue is alive. Someday we will overcome and the codes will have to change.

The Bongo Bongo F&B at the Night Safari joint is bathed in a warm glow given off by the raw wood. Business doubled!

Iban carvings of hornbill adorn the structures, an alliance between the village and the city is possible if we buy direct from the village. The city and the countryside is one space not two. This is the future. What relationships in exchange and design does this new relationship offer?
